Question 1. Why is the
Earth considered to be the most amazing planet in the solar system?
Answer. Earth is called the most amazing planet in the Solar System
because conditions conducive to life are probably found only on Earth. Earth is
neither too hot nor too cold. Water and air are present here which are
essential for our life. Air contains essential gases such as oxygen for life.
For all these reasons, we call the Earth the most amazing planet in the solar
system.
Question 2. How can you
determine the directions at night with the help of the pole star?
Answer. In ancient times, people used to determine the direction in
the night with the help of stars. The pole star plays an important role to show
the direction. The pole star is visible only in the north direction at night,
so with the help of the pole star one can get information about the north
direction and then other directions are also known.
Question 3. When it is
5:30 in the evening in India, it is 12:00 in the afternoon in London. Explain
the reason.
Answer. World Standard Time is determined by the Greenwich Line which
passes through England and India's Standard Time is determined by 82.5 degrees
East longitude. India is located to the east of the Greenwich Line and the time
here is 5 and a half hours ahead of the Greenwich Line, so when it is 12:00 in
the afternoon in London then it is 5:30 in the evening in India.
Question 4. Why did the
cultivators stay in one place for a long time?
Answer. The cultivators had to stay in one place for a long time
because when people started doing agriculture, they had to stay in one place
for a long time to take care of them. From sowing seeds to ripening of crops,
irrigating plants, removing weeds, protecting them from animals and birds, many
tasks were involved. After harvesting the grain had to be used very carefully.
Question 5. How different
was the life of agriculturist-pastoralist from that of a hunter-gatherer?
Answer. People of the hunter-gatherer community used to roam from one
place to another, in which the search for food, the search for water, the
search for animals, etc. were the main reasons. These people always used to
move from one place to another. On the other hand, farmers and pastoralists
gradually learned to do agriculture and they came to collect grains, grow crops
and take care of them. Women and children were engaged in agricultural work and
gradually learned to domesticate some animals in order to avoid wild animals
and thus the food hunters were different from the agriculturists- pastoralists.

understand by constellation? Give examples also.
Answer. At night time you can see different groups of stars in the
sky. These are called constellations. Arsa Major or Big Bear are such
constellations.

understand by planet? What is their number?
Answer. Some celestial bodies do not have their own light and heat and
are illuminated by the light of stars. Such bodies are called planets. The
planet, which is called the English planet, is derived from the Greek word
planetae which means revolving around. All the planets revolve around the Sun.
The total number of planets is 8.

Question 9. What do you
understand by solar system?
Answer. The Sun, eight planets, satellites and some other celestial
bodies like asteroids and meteorites together form the solar system. We name it
the solar family and its head is called Surya.
Question 10. Why do we
always see the same side of the Moon?
Answer. The Moon completes one revolution around the Earth in about 27
days. In about the same time, it also completes one revolution on its axis. As
a result, we can see only one side of the Moon from Earth.
Question 11. What is a
globe?
Answer. The model of the Earth is called a globe. It is a real image
of the Earth in its miniature form.
Question 12. Define
latitude and longitude lines.
Answer. Latitude - All parallel circles from the equator to the pole
are called latitude lines. Latitude is measured in degrees.
Longitude - The imaginary lines on the globe that join the North Pole
to the South Pole are called Longitude Lines, which play an important role in
determining the time of any region.
Question 13. Name all the
planets of the solar system.
Answer. There are eight major planets in the solar system. According
to their distance from the Sun, their names are as follows Mercury Venus Earth
Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus and Neptune.
Question 14. Why do
tropics receive the highest amount of heat?
Answer. The tropics receive the greatest amount of heat because the
Sun is once a year just above the head at noon at all latitudes between the
Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
