    Ans. Mahatma Gandhi appeared as a powerful symbol to unite the country for which the following reasons were responsible

    1.Mahatma Gandhi believed that salt could become a powerful commodity to unite the country.

    2.Salt was used equally by rich and poor, Hindus and Muslims alike.

    3.Salt was a very essential element of food.

    4.Due to the salt tax imposed by the British government, Gandhiji wanted to develop the national spirit in the people.

     

    Question 2. How was the non-cooperation movement different from the civil disobedience movement?

    Ans. The non-cooperation movement was different from the civil disobedience movement in the following way

    1.In the non-cooperation movement, people were asked not to cooperate with the government while in the civil disobedience movement, they were asked to violate these laws.

    The aim of the Non-Cooperation Movement was to achieve Swaraj while the main objective of the Civil Disobedience Movement was to achieve Purna Swaraj.

    3. The civil disobedience movement was more widespread and elaborate than the non-cooperation movement.

    4. The role of women in the civil disobedience movement run by Gandhiji was more than that of the non-cooperation movement.
