NAZISM AND THE RISE OF HITLER-5
The Nazi worldview According to this there was no
equality between people. In this view blond, blue-eyed, Nordic German Aryans
were at the top while the Jews were located at the lowest rung. According to
Nazis only the strongest race would survive and the weak ones would perish.
The Aryan race was the finest and it has to retain its purity, become
stronger and dominate the world. According to Nuremberg Law of citizenship of
September 1935, only the German blood would be given the citizenship and
other privileges. Any relation along with marriages between Jews and Germans
were forbidden. Jews were forbidden to fly the national flag; their
businesses were boycotted and were expelled from government services. They
were forced to sell their property and were even confiscated. Youth in Nazi Germany Hitler felt that a strong Nazi
society could be established only by teaching children Nazi ideology. This
required a complete control over the child. Good German children were
subjugated to a process of Nazi schooling, a prolonged period of ideological
training. School textbooks were rewritten. Racial science was introduced to
justify Nazi idea of race. Children were taught to be loyal and submissive,
hate Jews and worship Hitler. Even the sports were to nurture a spirit of
violence and aggression among the children. Hitler believed that boxing could
make children iron hearted, strong and masculine. 10 year old had to enter
‘Jungvolk’ and at 14 all boy had to join ‘Nazi youth’ where they were trained
in the ‘spirit of National Socialism’. In these organizations they learnt to
worship war, glorify aggression and violence, condemn democracy and hate
Jews, Communists, Gypsies and all those categorised as ‘undesirable’. Usually
at the age of 18 years they had to join Labour Service and had to serve in
the armed forces and enter one of the Nazi organization. The Nazi cult of motherhood:- According to Nazis’ ideology women
were radically different and inferior to man. Girls were told that they had
to become good mothers and rear pure-blooded Aryan children. Girls had to
maintain the purity of race, distance themselves from Jews, look after home
and teach their children Nazi values. According to Hitler the mother is the
most important citizen of the state. But not all mothers were treated equally
in Nazi German. Women who bore racially undesirable children were punished
and those who produce racially desired children were awarded. All women who
deviated from the prescribed code of conduct were publically condemned and
severely punished. |
