Question. How can you determine direction during the night with the help of the Pole Star?

Answer. In ancient times, people used to determine the direction in the night with the help of stars. The pole star plays an important role to show the direction. The pole star is visible only in the north direction at night, so with the help of the pole star one can get information about the north direction and then other directions are also known.

Question. 3 When it is 5.30 P.M. in India than London clocks 12.00 Noon? Give reason. (3)

Answer. World Standard Time is determined by the Greenwich Line which passes through England and India's Standard Time is determined by 82.5 degrees East longitude. India is located to the east of the Greenwich Line and the time here is 5 and a half hours ahead of the Greenwich Line, so when it is 12:00 in the afternoon in London then it is 5:30 in the evening in India.

Question 4. Why did people who grow crops have to stay at the same place for long time?

Answer. The cultivators had to stay in one place for a long time because when people started doing agriculture, they had to stay in one place for a long time to take care of them. From sowing seeds to ripening of crops, irrigating plants, removing weeds, protecting them from animals and birds, many tasks were involved. After harvesting the grain had to be used very carefully.

Question 5. In which ways the lives of farmers and herders would have been different from that of hunter gatherers? (3)

    Section-C (4X2=8)

Long Answer Type Question (6 and 7)

Question 6. What are the three heat zones of the Earth? Answer briefly. (4)

Answer. The entire earth is mainly divided into three thermal zone regions, which are as follows -

    1. Tropical temperature zone - The sun is once a year just above the head in the afternoon at all latitudes between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Therefore, this region receives maximum heat and is called the tropical zone.

    2. Temperate temperature zone - After the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, the afternoon shower never occurs above the head at any latitude. The sun's rays become oblique towards the pole. Thus, the area between the Tropic of Cancer and the North Pole Circle in the Northern Hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn and the South Pole in the Southern Hemisphere has moderate temperatures, hence it is called the Temperate Zone.

    3. Cold temperature zone - The area between the North Pole Circle and the North Pole in the Northern Hemisphere and the South Pole Circle and the South Pole in the Southern Hemisphere is very cold. Because here the sun does not come much above the horizon, so this region is called the cold heat zone.

    OR

Question. How is the international standard time calculated from the Prime Meridian?

Answer. The longitude line of 0 degrees is called the principal meridian and it passes through the Greenwich location of England, hence it is also called the Greenwich Line. At the prime meridian where the Sun is at the highest point in the sky, it is noon at all places on the meridian. Because the Earth rotates from west to east, places that are east of Greenwich have a time ahead of Greenwich time and places that are west of time are behind.

We can understand this phenomenon of time through the following example - Earth rotates 360 times on its axis in about 24 hours, that is, it rotates 15 times in 1 hour and 1 time in 4 minutes. Thus, when it is 12:00 in the afternoon in Greenwich, then the time 15 degrees east of Greenwich will be 15X4=60 minutes i.e. 1 hour ahead of Greenwich time i.e. there will be 1:00 in the afternoon. But the time of 15 degrees west of Greenwich will be 1 hour behind Greenwich time, that is, it will be 11 in the morning there. Thus, when it is 12:00 noon at Greenwich, it will be midnight at 180 degrees.

Question 7. What is the importance of the Gram Sabha? Mention briefly. Do you think all people should attend the meetings of Gram Sabha? Why? (4)

Answer. Gram Sabha - Gram Sabha is the assembly of all the adults living in the area of a panchayat. It may be that there may be only one village or there may be more than one village. We know that in many states, each village's Gram Sabha meeting is different. Any person who is 18 years of age or more and who has the right to vote and whose name is included in the electoral roll of the village is a member of the Gram Sabha.

Gram Sabha has an important role to play for the Gram Panchayat to work impartially in the interest of the entire village. In the meeting of the Gram Sabha, the Gram Panchayat places its plans in front of the people. The Gram Sabha can prevent the Panchayat from working arbitrarily. Along with this, it also monitors that there is no misuse of money and any wrongdoing.

In this way, the Gram Sabha plays a very important role in keeping an eye on the elected representatives and making them accountable and accountable to the people.
