main features of Himadri.
Answer. The
highest range of the Himalayas is known as Himadri, its main features are as
follows -
1. It is
the highest mountain range of the Himalayas with the highest peak with an
average height of 6000 metres.
2. Under
Himadri are all the main peaks of the Himalayas.
3. This
range of Himalayas is almost always covered with snow and many glaciers flow
from here.
Question 2. Describe some
important features of the Indian desert.
Answer.
Desert is also a part under the natural nature of India and it is mainly
located in Rajasthan. Its main features are as follows -
1. Annual
rainfall in this desert area is less than 150 mm.
2. Natural
vegetation is rarely found in this desert area.
3. A
crescent-shaped sand dune is seen in this desert area.
4. Luni
River is the largest river of this region.
Question 3. Differentiate
between Eastern Ghats and Western Ghats.
Answer. The
major differences between Eastern Ghats and Western Ghats are as follows -
Eastern Ghats
1. The
Eastern Ghats are the Ashutosh Range parallel to the eastern coast which has
been cut by the rivers falling into the Bay of Bengal.
2. The
average elevation of the Eastern Ghats is about 600 meters.
3. Mahendra
Giri is the highest peak of the Eastern Ghats.
Western Ghats
1. The
Western Ghats are a chain of words parallel to the western coast which can be
crossed only through passes.
2. The
height of the Western Ghats varies from north to south from 900 meters to 1600
meters.
3. Anaimudi
is the highest peak of the Western Ghats.
Question 4. Why does
India need Standard Time?
Answer. The
longitudinal extent of India is from 68°7' east longitude to 97°25' east
longitude, which generates a difference of about 30°. We know that the value of
1° is 4 minutes, so in this way there can be a difference of 2 hours between
the eastern and western states of India. Therefore, standard time is needed so
that one time arrangement can be made for the whole of India. The standard time
of India is 82.5° East longitude.

India's central position in the Indian Ocean benefit? Mention it.
Answer.
India is situated at the very center of the Indian Ocean and it also gets a lot
of benefits which we can understand through the following points -
1. There is
no country in the Indian Ocean whose coastline is as long as that of India.
2. The
countries of Europe, West Asia, East Asia and Africa have to pass through India
for trade by sea route, which benefits India.
3. India is
located in the center of the Indian Ocean and is an important country and that
is why this ocean is named after India as the Indian Ocean.

were exchanged due to India's contact with different countries since ancient
times? Explain.
Answer.
India has been in contact with different countries since ancient times and due
to this the following things have been exchanged -
1. The
stories of India's Upanishads, Ramayana, Gita, Mahabharata, Panchatantra have
been received by other countries.
2. The
decimal system of Indian numerals has been passed on to the rest of the world.
3. The
world has also received spices and muslin from India.
4. Some
objects and things have also come to India from other countries such as Greek
architecture.
5. The idea
of minarets and domes, symbols of architecture from West Asia.

Himalayan rivers and the rivers of peninsular India different?
Answer.
Some of the major differences between the Himalayan rivers and the rivers of
peninsular India are as follows -
1. The
Himalayan rivers originate from the Himalaya Mountains while most of the rivers
of peninsular India originate from the western Thar.
2. The
Himalayan rivers are full of water throughout the year as the amount of water
in them is maintained by glaciers whereas the rivers of peninsular India depend
on the amount of rainfall.
3. The
Himalayan rivers are much longer than the rivers of peninsular India.

importance of rivers in the economy of the country.
Answer.
Rivers are very important for any country and they also affect the country's
economy to a great extent. We can understand the importance of rivers in the
economy of the country through the following points -
1. Water
from rivers is a natural resource and it plays a very important role in the
daily activities of human beings.
2. Many
iron and steel industries have been established on the banks of these rivers,
which act as the cornerstone of the country's economy.
3. The
water of rivers is used for irrigation, navigation, hydropower generation and
due to this the economic development of the country also takes place.
4. The
banks of rivers have been the habitation of man since ancient times and these
small villages have now taken the form of big cities and have also become a
very big center of economic activities.
Question 9. Mention the
main features of the Ganges river system.
Answer.
Some of the salient features of the Ganges river system are as follows:
1. The
Ganges River is the longest river in India and its length is about 25 km.
2. Yamuna
Ghaghra Gandak Kosi is a Himalayan tributary of Ganga while Chambal Betwa is
its peninsular tributary.
3. The
Ganges river system provides water to a large part of the northern Great Plains
of India.
4. The
Ganges river joins the Bay of Bengal through Bangladesh and before falling, it
forms the world's largest delta, the Sundarbans delta. This delta is formed by
both the Brahmaputra and the Ganges River.

Himalayas are a boon for India. Give arguments in favor of the answer.
Answer. The
Himalayan mountain has proved to be a boon for India and the following factors
are responsible for this-
1. The
Himalaya Mountains provide an undisturbed border to India.
2. The
Himalayan Mountains block the monsoon winds and cause enough rainfall in India.
3. Due to
the Himalaya Mountains, the rivers originating from here are full of water
throughout the year.
4. The
Himalayan Mountains contain a vast store of natural resources in themselves.
