devotion to the image of Bharat Mata come to be seen as evidence of one’s
nationalism? Explain giving appropriate examples. Ans. Reverence for the image of Mother India came to
be considered a symbol of faith in nationalism. With the development of
nationalism in the 20th century, India's identity also began to emerge as the
image of Mother India. This picture was first created by Bankim Chandra
Chattopadhyay. In the 1870s, he wrote the song Vande Mataram as a praise for
the motherland. Inspired by the Swadeshi movement, Avindra Nath Tagore
portrayed the defence image of Bharat Mata. Later, this image began to be
painted on a large scale and gradually became the identity of the nation. 2. Who wrote the
book Anandamath? Ans. Anandmath was composed by Bankim Chandra
