This Question paper is divided into
five sections-Section A, B, C, D and E.
(ii)
All questions are compulsory.
(iii)
Section-A: Question no. 1 to 5 are
very short answer type questions of 2 marks each. Answer to each question
should not exceed 40 words.
(iv)
Section-B: Question no. 6 to 8 are
short answer type questions, carrying 3 marks each. Answer to each question
should not exceed 80 words.
(v)
Section-C: Question no. 9 and 10
are long answer type questions, carrying 5 marks each. Answer to each question
should not exceed 120 words.
(vi)
Section-D: Question no. 11 and 12
are Case Based questions.
(vii)
Section-E: Question no. 13 is map
based, carrying 3 marks with two parts, 13.1 from History (1 mark) and 13.2
from Geography (2 marks).
(viii)
There is no overall choice in the
question paper. However, an internal choice has been provided in a few
questions. Only one of the choices in such questions have to be attempted.

In addition to this, separate
instructions are given with each section and question, wherever necessary.
SECTION-A Very Short Answer Questions 2X5 =10 |
1. How did the
Non-Cooperation Movement unfold in the cities and towns of India? 2
Answer. The
non-cooperation movement started with the participation of the urban middle
class. Thousands of students had dropped out of school and college. The
teachers and headmasters resigned. The non-cooperation movement spread beyond
the feet and spread to the countryside and rural areas as well. After the war,
various types of tribal and peasant struggle movements also became a part of
the non-cooperation movement.
2. Why
is tourism considered as a trade? 2
Answer.
Tourism is considered a business because tourism provides employment to many
people and also generates a lot of revenue from the arrival of tourists to
different countries.
3. Differentiate
between one party and two party system.2
Answer. One
party system is a system in which there is only one political day in a country.
For example China.
Two-party
system - When two political parties are present in a country and these two
political parties form the government, then such a system is called two-party
system. For example US and UK.
4. State
the role of Reserve Bank of India. 2
Answer. The
Reserve Bank of India in India is the central bank of the country and it
performs a variety of important functions, including issuing currency,
monitoring banks, issuing various types of monetary policies, etc.

5.1 Compare
the 2015-2016 and 2019-2020 data and give any one reason for the reduction of
production of steel in 2019-2020.2
Answer. The
reduction in production in the year 2019-2020 as compared
to the year 2015-160 was because the per capita steel
consumption in 2019 was only 74.3 kg
per year.
5.2 Why
is production and consumption of steel considered as an index of a country’s
development? (2)
Answer. The
production and consumption of steel is kept as an index of development of a
country because the production and consumption of steel gives an impression of
that country being developed, developing or backward.

6. Why
do most of the rural households still remain dependent on the informal sources
of credit? Explain.(3)
Answer.
Most of the rural households in India are still dependent on formal sources of
credit for which many reasons are responsible, some of which are as follows-
1. People in rural areas are
still not fully educated due to which these people do not get loans from banks.
2. Small farmers and laborers
in rural areas are unable to present a supportive credit base for getting loans
from banks and hence have to depend on sources of informal credit.
3. Due to
unequal distribution of formal credit sources, rural people do not get easy and
cheap credit in rural areas, due to which these people have to depend on
informal sources.
OR
How do Self Help Groups
help borrowers to overcome the problem of lack of collateral? Explain. (3)
answer.
Self Help Groups have made available credit to rural people by overcoming the
problems of lack of supportive credit base in rural areas and also overcome the
problem of lack of supportive credit base. The self-help groups have provided
loans by removing the lack of supporter base in the following ways-
1. Self-help groups have made
loans available to the people in rural areas without supporting credit base,
due to which the problem of supporting credit base has been removed in these
areas.
2. Self
Help Groups collect deposits of members especially in rural areas and provide
them when needed so that these rural people get trapped in the debt trap.
3. Self
Help Groups provide loans to the poor and especially women in rural areas so
that their all-round development can be possible. Self Help Groups do not ask
for any kind of supporting loan base for providing loans.
7. “Tribal
peasants interpreted the message of Mahatma Gandhi and the idea of swaraj in
another way and participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement differently.”
Justify the statement. (3)
Answer.
Swaraj was such an ideology that made people from every corner of the country
aware and inspired to join this movement. Gandhi's concept of Swaraj meant
self-government, but different sections interpreted it differently.
The tribal
farmers saw the message of Mahatma Gandhi and the idea of Swaraj in such a
way that they would now get freedom from their various kinds of sufferings.
Tribal farmers
joined Gandhi's non-cooperation movement in a different way and believed that
Swaraj would liberate them from various types of British laws and make their
lives easier.
Tribal
farmers joined the non-cooperation movement so that they could get freedom from
various types of land tax and rent.
8. Examine
the role of Political Parties in a democratic country. (3)
Answer.
Political parties play an important role in any democratic country and it is
difficult to imagine a democracy without political parties. We can understand
the role of political parties through the following points-
1. In a modern democratic
system, the system of governance is not possible without political parties.
2.
Political parties present different types of policies to the public during
elections and promise to bring changes to the people. If these political
parties are not there then such big policy changes will not be possible.
3. In any
democratic country, political parties contest elections and form the government
and run the country and carry out various types of public welfare works. All
this work is not possible without political parties.
4.
Political parties run the governance of the country and are also responsible
for the development of the country, if it is not a political party, then the
problem of running the country will be in front.

9. Democracy’s
ability to generate its own support is itself an outcome that cannot be
ignored.’ Support the statement with examples.
Answer.
Democracy generates its own support and it is also a result of it. We can
understand this statement through the following points
1. Democracy determines that
the decision-making process should be in such a way that it is according to the
rules and is described according to the constitution.
2. In a democratic system of
governance, every citizen has the right to examine and investigate the
decision-making process of the government.
3. A
democratic government is a responsible, legitimate and transparent government.
What kind of qualities are not found in any other government.
4. In a
democratic government system, people have the right to choose their own ruler.
5. The
democratic system provides the right to the people to get information about the
government and its functions.
6. A
democratic government is a government that is a government of the people and a
government for the people.

‘There is an overwhelming
support for the idea of democracy in South Asia.’ Support the statement with

There appears to be substantial support and interest for democratic governance
in South Asia. Democratic governance has been adopted in most of the countries
of South Asia, which shows that democratic governance is very popular in South
Asia. We can understand the support of democracy in South Asia through written

Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc.

10. Examine
the role of Information Technology in stimulating the process of globalization. (5)

Globalization is a process through which different economies of the world come
closer to each other and are intertwined. There are many reasons contributing
to the imperative of globalization, among them the role of communication and
information technology is very important, which we will understand through the
following points-
1. In the present time
technology is continuously evolving and it has proved like a boon for
globalization.
2. Means of
communication such as telegraph telephone including mobile phone fax etc. have
greatly simplified the exchange of information.
3. These
tools of information technology have helped to establish connectivity even in
those areas which were not in the mainstream earlier.
4. New
inventions of information technology, in which satellite is also an important
discovery, has helped in the development of many types of research and fields.
5. The most
important discovery of information technology, which we call computer, which
has become a part of almost every process, has contributed significantly to the
spread of globalization.
6. Due to
electronic mail and voice mail, every person is connected with each other at
very low cost and is able to exchange his ideas faster.
7. These
tools of information technology have made a very important contribution in the
development of business in the world.
8. With the
invention of the Internet, any person can now get any kind of information very
quickly anywhere and can keep himself connected with global events.

effects of globalization are seen all over the world and its effects have not
been the same on all countries. There are also substantial effects of
globalization on India, which we can understand through the following points-
1. Due to globalization, many
types of options have become available before the people in India. The Indian
consumer can choose from many options of goods.
2. Due to globalization,
investment and new companies have created ample employment opportunities in
India.
3.
Globalization has facilitated the arrival of multinational companies in India
and due to this a variety of products such as mobile phones, cars and food
items are becoming available in India.
4. One
effect of globalization is seen on the people of India that now the standard of
living of the people has become better than before.
5. Indian
consumers are now getting more quality goods at lower prices.
6.
Globalization has helped some local companies in India to become multinational
companies.
7. Economic
inequality in India also increases due to globalization, which means that
globalization has made rich people richer and poor people poorer.

Globalization has almost wiped out many small companies and small businessmen
in India as they did not have the capacity to compete with the MNCs.

culture and civilization has expanded in India due to globalization.

resistance” that it is the weapon of the weak, but the power which is the
subject of this article can be used only by the strong. This power is not
passive resistance; indeed, it calls for intense activity. The movement in
South Africa was not passive but active …
‘Satyagraha
is not physical force. A satyagrahi does not inflict pain on the adversary; he
does not seek his destruction … In the use of satyagraha, there is no ill-will
whatever.
‘Satyagraha is pure
soul-force. Truth is the very substance of the soul. That is why this force is
called satyagraha. The soul is informed with knowledge. In it burns the flame
of love. … Nonviolence is the supreme dharma …‘It is certain that India cannot
rival Britain or Europe in force of arms. The British worship the war-god and
they can all of them become, as they are becoming, bearers of arms. The
hundreds of millions in India can never carry arms. They have made the religion
of non-violence their own ...’
11.1. Why
did Gandhiji consider nonviolence as supreme dharma? (1)
Answer:
Gandhiji accepted non-violence as a philosophy and considered it essential for
an ideal life. Gandhiji considered non-violence as the highest religion and
believed that non-violence is not a weapon of the weak, it should be adopted by
all.
11.2 How
was Gandhian satyagraha taken by the people who believed in his philosophy? (1)
Answer. A
Satyagrahi never hurts the opponent, he never wants his own destruction. There
is no ill-will of any kind in the practice of Satyagraha.
11.3 Why
was Gandhian satyagraha considered as a novel way to resist injustice? (2)
answer.
Gandhian Satyagraha has been considered as a new way of protesting injustice
for which the following factors are responsible-
1. Any person can win any type
of war through non-violence and can win the battle.
2. Non-violence is a very
suitable medium to show the opponent of Satyagraha that he is doing wrong.
12. Read the given
text and answer the following questions: Ever since humans appeared on the
earth, they have used different means of communication. But, the pace of
change, has been rapid in modern times. Long distance communication is far
easier without physical movement of the communicator or receiver. Personal
communication and mass communication including television, radio, press, films,
etc. are the major means of communication in the country. The Indian postal
network is the largest in the world. It handles parcels as well as personal
written communications. Cards and envelopes are considered first-class mail and
are airlifted between stations covering both land and air. The second-class
mail includes book packets, registered newspapers and periodicals. They are
carried by surface mail, covering land and water transport. To facilitate quick
delivery of mails in large towns and cities, six mail channels have been
introduced recently. They are called Rajdhani Channel, Metro Channel, Green
Channel, Business Channel, Bulk Mail Channel and Periodical Channel.

Mass Communication Mass communication is a medium that provides information and
entertainment to a large number of people. It includes radio television news
paper magazines books and movies.
Personal
communication is the medium of communication in which two people exchange their
ideas with each other. Letters, mobile phones etc. come under this.

the significance of communication for a nation.(2)
Answer. The
importance of communication for a nation is as follows-
1. Present time is the era of
means of communication like telephone, television, film and internet without
them it is not possible to imagine the present world.
2. With these means of
communication, the government is able to take its various types of schemes and
programs to the people.

magazines are one of the major medium of mass communication.
4. The means of communication
are the main sources of knowledge and entertainment.
